Saturday 29th December Premier League round-up
Man Utd will enter 2013 with a 7 point gap. Ashley Young’s cross hit Gareth McAuley and this own goal gave them the lead. The game finished 2-0 and wasn’t easy but in the tough weather conditions United will be happy to just take the 3 points.
Robin Van Persie came off the bench to score the second goal in the 90th minute. This was a good win that was needed and allowed Sir Alex to rest key players. With Kagawa back United have another option. With Vidic back United were able to get their fourth clean sheet of the season. With these two important players back, United yet to hit form and a 7 point gap opened at the top it looks very likely United will become the Premier League champions this season.
Theo Walcott scored three goals and assisted two others to help Arsenal win their encounter with Newcastle that finished with 10 goals overall. Walcott’s contract expires in the summer and Arsenal seem to be struggling to agree a new deal with the star. Podolski scored a goal and Giroud bagged a brace. Arsenal’s explosive attack proved their ability, but now need to find some consistency.
Ten-man Man City beat the hard-working Norwich City as Edin Dzeko scored twice in the opening four minutes to give Man City the lead. The game was back and forth and included lots of action. Samir Nasri was sent off for Man City and Russell Martin scored twice for Norwich. Man city knew that dropping points would likely leave either a 9 or 10 point lead so they had to win. Both teams showed a lot of character and provided the fans with an entertaining game, one that both teams deserved a point from, rather than Man City taking all three.
