49er’s shut down the Patriot’s comeback attempt to win 41-34

49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are the only team to come back from 28 points down to win a  regular season game and nearly became a team that had both sides of a tied record.

The 49ers had exploded and were winning 31-3, with many stating the Patriots had no chance of coming back. The Pats found form as Tom Brady showed his credentials as one of the best ever quarterbacks.

Two touchdowns from Woodhead, one from Brady and the other from Hernandez was enough for the Pats to tie the game. This second half display had given them the momentum and many thought they could go on to win.

This would have been one of the best comebacks of all time but the 49ers exploder in style to grab another touchdown lead. From there it looked unlikely the Pats had any gas in the tank to attempt another comeback. After another field goal for the 49ers the Pats failed a few times and could only grab a field goal to reduce the deficit to 7.

The 49ers defence had been all over Brady and it looked like this was a super bowl match-up to avoid for the Pats, if these times should get there. The Pats will take a lot of credit from this as they displayed great heart, effort and determination and deserved more from the game based on their second half performance. If the Pats can learn from this game and take it as a wake-up call then they should be a much better playoff team for it.

Tom Brady completed 36/65 of his pass attempts for 443 yards, 1 td and 1 interception. This game was one filled with many positives and negatives for the New England quarterback. Woodhead rushed for 61 yards and 2 touchdowns and was a great outlet on offence for the Pats. Brandon Lloyd was the star receiver for both teams as he caught for 190 yards, a sensational amount by the experienced WR.Tight End Hernandez was a star in the Pats comeback as he caught for 92 yards and 1 touchdown.

49ers quarterback Kaepernick had a sensational game and was 14/25 for 216 yards, 4 tds and 1 interception. The QB has taken Alex Smith’s job and it doesn’t look like he will relinquish the role any time soon. Crabtree received for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns and proved to be the difference maker between the two teams. Gore was a menace in the running game as he racked up 83 yards and proved a tough opposition for the Pats defence to stop.
